From Hospital Halls to Forest Walls: Larissa’s Healing Hideaway

Because every child fighting cancer deserves a space that heals.

At just 11 years old, Larissa is fighting leukemia — and she still has two more years of treatment ahead of her.

When Larissa first found out she had cancer, she said it felt incredibly hard. She felt really small.
“It was really scary,” she shared.

No child should ever have to carry that weight.

Between hospital visits, procedures, and long stretches of time at home, her world has shifted dramatically. Treatment has affected her mobility, meaning even something as simple as climbing into a bunk bed is no longer safe. But while so much has changed, one thing remains constant: Larissa’s imagination, creativity, and deep love for nature.

And that’s where Designing Dreams teamed up with Whit at Home stepped in.

A Forest to Feel Safe In

Larissa had one very clear dream — she wanted a forest-themed bedroom.

Why a forest?

Because nature feels healing.
Because trees feel strong and steady.
Because being surrounded by greenery feels calm.

Whit at Home designed a space that brings the peaceful magic of the outdoors inside. Soft, neutral tones wrap the room in warmth. A breathtaking forest mural stretches across the walls, creating the feeling of being tucked away among tall trees. Twinkling lights add a gentle glow, transforming the space into a cozy woodland retreat.

This isn’t just a themed bedroom.
It’s a sanctuary.

Designed for Healing

Every detail was chosen with both beauty and function in mind.

Larissa now has:

  • A low, accessible bed that keeps her safe and comfortable
  • Soft textures and calming colors to create a peaceful atmosphere
  • Floating bookshelves for her favorite stories
  • A dedicated art station where she can draw and create
  • Cozy reading nooks that invite rest and imagination

Because healing doesn’t just happen in hospitals.
It happens in safe spaces.
It happens in rooms where children feel strong instead of small.

More Than a Bedroom

When Larissa walked into her new space, it wasn’t just a reveal — it was a transformation.

From hospital halls…
To forest walls.

In a season filled with uncertainty, she now has a place that feels steady. A place where she can rest on hard days. A place where she can create on good days. A place that reminds her she is brave, strong, and never alone.

This room gives Larissa something every child deserves during cancer treatment:

A space that helps her feel like a kid again.

And that is powerful.
